Frequently Asked Questions

You should find answers to some of your questions here. If you have a different question or concern, please do let us know! There’s no such thing as a stupid question!

What do I need to bring on my trip?

We recommend bringing a few items along with you:

  1. A hat and sunglasses

  2. Sunblock

  3. A sweatshirt/sweatpants as it can be a little cooler right away in the morning

  4. Any special snacks or drinks (we have complimentary water on board)

  5. A cooler to transport your catch home (can leave this in your vehicle)

  6. Motion sickness medication (if applicable)

  7. Lastly, but certainly not least, your fishing license!

Do I need a fishing license?

You will need a license to fish on Lake Michigan. Both resident and non-resident 2-day Great Lakes licenses cost $14, which includes the required trout stamp. Licenses may be purchased online or in person at various locations in the area. Children under 16 are not required to purchase a license. Please keep in mind that regulations require a paper copy of your license while out on the water, so have that ready in advance of your trip. For more information, including places to purchase a license, please visit the Wisconsin DNR’s website here.

What about safety?

At Reel Passion Fishing, safety is above all else the #1 priority. The boat is inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard and held to their requirements, some of which include having enough life jackets, fire extinguishers, flares, and a first aid kit on board. Additionally, Captain Nate is a certified EMT. When you arrive for your trip, one of us will share important information with you (like on an airplane) as well as where to find life jackets should they be needed.

What gear do you provide?

We supply all of the necessary gear, bait, and tackle you’ll need in order to catch fish. We also provide all the safety gear on the boat, but if you wish, you may bring your own life jacket. If you do, please be sure that the life jacket is Coast Guard approved. Additionally, we provide complimentary water on board as well as a cooler to keep your fish in for the duration of the trip. We recommend bringing your own cooler and leaving it in your vehicle until we return to the dock, so that way you’re able to keep your catch cool until you get home.

Do you serve alcohol?

Currently, we are not able to serve alcohol on board.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Trip deposits are fully refundable or transferable to a new date if the customer cancels their booking or changes dates for any reason up to 72 hours before the trip. If the trip is cancelled within 72 hours notice, for reasons not including weather or unsafe conditions, Reel Passion reserves the right to withhold the deposit to compensate for the lost opportunity of operating a trip. Please note, extenuating circumstances are different and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us with any questions or if this applies to you.
